City Mayor, 226 others add to  COVID - 19 cases in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, Apr. 3 (PIA) - - Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in an official statement, announced  that he is infected with the Coronavirus disease (COVID – 19) as confirmed by his RT – PCR test which result came out yesterday (April 2) afternoon.

Magalong assured though  that  he will continue to closely monitor the city’s situation and coordinate   with the proper authorities the necessary things to be done.

“Indeed, this news came out as a devastating blow for me and my family. The seriousness of this pandemic is something that we should not take for granted. It is a difficult situation and I don’t want anyone of you to be in this condition, as it is emotionally, psychologically and financially difficult for our loved ones to bear”, Magalong said.

The mayor also strongly advised the people of Baguio to continue to observe the minimum public health standards and safety protocols to protect themselves, their families , friends and everybody  they care for.

Meantime, the City Health Services Office, in their April 2 COVID – 19 update, reported  227 new confirmed cases for Baguio, the most number of cases reported in a day, so far.  The HSO clarified  that the number includes test specimens from March 29 to April 2.

As of April 2 data of City HSO, there are already 7,816 confirmed COVID – 19 cases recorded in Baguio, where 878 (11.23 percent) are active cases, 6,808 (87.10 percent) already recovered and 130 (1.66 percent) recorded deaths.

In terms of testing, there were 146,005 total RT – PCR tests done in Baguio City including 617 tests conducted on  April 2. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
