DPWH kicks off construction of Mega Modular Hospital in Mandaluyong

CALOOCAN CITY, April 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started developing the site for the construction of a Mega Modular Hospital Project, that will cater to COVID-19 patients, at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) compound in Mandaluyong City.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said after a careful planning of his formed DPWH Task Force for Augmentation of Local/National Health Facilities, ground works has begun for the off-site health facilities at the NCMH compound.

"We initiated the construction of the additional pop-up hospital to further augment the country’s healthcare facilities and ensure care is not hampered for COVID-19 patients and to protect the welfare of the Filipino people," Secretary Villar said.

In his report to the DPWH chief, Undersecretary and DPWH Task Force Head Emil K. Sadain said that equipment and manpower are now working on-site for the construction of 11 cluster units of modular health facilities. 

Usec. Sadain together with Task Force members National Capital Region Director Eric Ayapana, Bureau of Construction Director Aristarco Doroy and Metro Manila 1st District Engineer Medel Chua checked the start up activities focused on pre-development and site preparation involving earthworks to ensure that the construction of modular health facilities gets off to the right start.  

Excited with the beginning of works for additional hospital facilities,  the NCMH management headed by Medical Center Chief Dr. Noel V. Reyes; Dr. Beverly Azucena, Chief Medical Professional Staff (CMPS) for Hospital Service; Dr. Alden Cuyos, CMPS for Community Service; Dionicio Tolentino, Chief, Finance Service; and Engr. Evelyn Purino; Chief, Planning and Development Section were also present in the site inspection. 

The project is consists of an eight cluster units of modular hospital, each with 22 airconditioned rooms with separate toilet and bath or 176 total bed capacity.

In addition, three cluster units of off-site dormitories will be built for hospital personnel and other health service frontliners. (PIA NCR)
