PAMPLONA, Cagayan, April 25 (PIA) -- Some former leaders and organizers from legal front organizations of the communist terrorist group, New People's Army, disclosed their deceitful tactics in recruiting people to join the armed rebellion against the Philippine government.

"Ka Layda", who was the vice-chairperson of the Aniban ng Manggagawang Kababaihan (Amihan), said that she was persuaded to join the rebel group because of a promise that they will help her resolve their land distribution issues.
She also joined the training school of the rebels and eventually became a full-time organizer of Anakpawis, a legal front of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New Peoples' Army - National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), since 2012.
According to her, she was persuaded because she also believed in the principles that they were fighting for, but she realized that the group that she was organizing is actually a legal front of the terrorist group.
Ka Layda narrated the challenges and hardships she experienced with the Reds and the moment she decided to surrender and adhere to the government in order to live peacefully and productively.
"Napagdesisyunan ko po na sumuko para malinis ang pangalan ko at gusto ko na rin pong bumalik sa gobyerno," she said.
She also said that she decided to clear the names of those she recruited as Anakpawis members to give them peace of mind and so that they can remain in the government's side.
On the other hand, a young organizer of Kabataan Partylist known as "Ka Mitch" was also recruited as the CPP-NPA-NDF infiltrated their remote community, taking advantage of the rigid accessibility and the absence of electricity in the area.
She was also persuaded to join the "schooling" inside the rebel group with the promise also that they will help her and her people in their land acquisition problem.
"I entered the schooling for two months, but I did not expect that they will train us to fight against the government. I escaped because I pitied my parents who are doing their best for my education," she said.
Former rebel Mauricio Aguinaldo, now Barangay Captain of Balanni, Sto. Nino town, also revealed that aside from Anakpawis, there are other legal fronts established by the communist groups in the province which include Gabriela and Amihan.
"They use poverty, inaccessibility, absence of electricity, land reform, and other public issues to persuade people to fight against the government. They inculcate [in] the minds of the people that the resolution [to] these problems is to [become] an NPA member," Aguinaldo said.
He encouraged members of legal fronts as well as those who are still on the side of the CPP-NPA-NDF to surrender and enjoy a peaceful and productive life with adherence to the government.
Aguinaldo is now the regional coordinator of Sambayan, the organization of former rebels in Region 2. (JCK/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
