La Union town imposes liquor ban from April 2-15

BAUANG, La Union, Apr. 3 (PIA) – The local government unit (LGU) of Bauang has imposed a liquor ban anew through Executive Order (EO) No. 064 issued by Mayor Menchie De Guzman on Friday, April 2.

This is one of the pro-active measures of the LGU to address the drastic increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in the municipality.

“There is a need for additional pro-active measures to control crowding and ensure social distancing even in family compounds to abate transmission and prevent total community lockdowns,” the EO read.

EO No. 064 prohibits both the consumption and selling of alcohol and other intoxicating beverages within the territorial jurisdiction of the town immediately effective upon issuance until April 15, 2021.

However, this suspension only covers alcohol-drinking activities in public places.

“Consumption of beverages inside private homes is not covered by this order provided that no guests or visitors are invited for the purpose,” it further stated.

The Philippine National Police, along with the Business Permits and Licensing Office, the Municipal Enforcement Team and the Barangay Councils are mandated to enforce and oversee the implementation of the ordinance.

Further, as of midnight of Friday, the local government holds a total of 243 confirmed cases of which 29 are newly added; 143 recoveries of which four are newly logged; and four fatalities.

Said new cases are from the villages of Nagrebcan, Central West, Payocpoc Sur, Payocpoc Norte, Central East, Baccuit Norte, Dili, Pudoc, Calumbaya, Paringao, Pagdalagan Sur, Santiago and Pugo.

These newly recorded infections bring the municipality’s number of active cases to 96.  (AMB/CGRC, PIA La Union)
