LGU Catarman intensifies COVID vaccines uptake

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, April 27 (PIA) -- In its effort to increase public confidence in COVID-19 vaccines uptake, the Local Government Unit of Catarman spearheaded a meeting with the barangay chairpersons, heads of national government agencies, non-government organizations, civil society, academe, senior citizens, and the private and government media at the Catarman Freedom Park on April 24, 2021.

The meeting was conducted due to the high hesitancy rate due to the misinformation that the people read about the vaccine against COVID-19 on social media and on television.

Of the 66,000 eligible population of Catarman, only 2,248 individuals registered through the online Covid-19 vaccination pre-registration program as well as pre-registration forms through the barangays that was submitted to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) as of April 24, 2021.

Francisco C. Rosales Jr., being the chair of local inter-agency task force, urged everyone present to help in the dissemination campaign on the COVID-19 free vaccination of the government and counter the misinformation on the coronavirus vaccines.

Rosales said the recent survey worries the local government unit, because the pre-registration campaign was moving too slowly and some barangays did not even signify their intention to get vaccinated despite the threat of the virus.

Meanwhile, Dr. Blessie Dana NoroƱa of RHU Catarman discussed the vital processes of vaccines used to assure its safety, efficacy, and quality.

She said getting a COVID-19 vaccine keeps you from getting seriously ill even if you get the COVID-19 virus and getting vaccinated yourself may also protect the people around you, particularly people at increased risk for severe illness.

She also reminded the public that even after vaccination, the basic prevention measures such as wearing of face mask, face shield, washing of hands, and social distancing should be reinforced to prevent transmission of the virus.

Barangay chairpersons and sectoral groups present during the meeting assured Mayor Rosales of their commitment to conduct house-to-house campaign for the COVID-19 free vaccination program of the national government. (ldl/tbc/PIA Northern Samar)
