BAGUIO CITY, April 1 (PIA) - - The National Commission on Culture and the Arts(NCCA)  and the City Government of Baguio are set to conduct consolidation of baseline data on cultural resources that are inherent in this  Summer Capital.

NCCA Chairperson Arsenio Lizaso and Baguio City Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, representing Mayor Benjamin Magalong, recently led other officials in the signing of memorandum of understanding for a “Local Cultural Mapping” project.

Under the partnership, NCCA will conduct capability - building training for cultural workers and artists who will conduct  cultural mapping and will provide technical assistance and mentoring for the duration of the project.

For the  part of the city LGU,  aside from  organizing the training workshop and ensuring continous  implementation of the project,  it will  establish local culture and arts council and pass a local ordinance that will support the project.

The NCCA has established its Cultural Mapping Program to support local government units in doing their mandate of maintaining an inventory of cultural property under their  jurisdiction and to furnish the NCCA of  their  local inventory.

Cultural mapping is important for LGUs and other stakeholders to identify the distinct cultural resources of their community and at the same time can properly record a heritage resource for future reference.

Lizaso was one of the invited guests for the first Montañosa Film Festival that include Film Academy of the Philippines Chairperson Vivian Velez and National Commission on Indigenous People chairperson Secretary Allen Capuyan. They joined  city officials, the film festival organizers and the film makers of the 10 digital film finalists.

Lizaso congratulated Baguio City and filmfest organizers for their initiative to promote arts even in this time of pandemic. “Let us spread arts faster than COVID – 19”, he said. (CCD/PIA CAR)
