PENABLANCA, Cagayan, May 6 (PIA) - - - Local chief executives in the provincial, city, and municipal levels in the region as well as members of various sectors participated in the second leg of “Kasama sa Pamana: Regional Pre-SONA Series” held yesterday.
The event aims to share updates and insights on the policies, programs, and accomplishments of the Administration, as well as its responses and updates in mitigating the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.
In his opening remarks, Cagayan Third District Representative Joseph Lara said it was a great honor to host the important event to inform the general public across the regions of the major accomplishments of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, as well as the plans for the remainder of his term.
“Isang malaking karangalan na tayo ay magkakasama sa ganitong importanteng kaganapan. Kunin ko na po itong pagkakataon na magpasalamat sa ating mahal na Pangulo and to his administration sa suporta hindi lamang sa ating distrito kundi sa buong Region 2. Sa lahat ng proyekto at programa, ramdam po namin mahal na Pangulo,” Lara said.
“More than ever, I feel proud to have supported you to become our President,” the representative added.
In his message, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles shared that the Pre-SONA (State of the Nation Address) activity serves as a comprehensive prequel for the President's sixth and final SONA on July 26, 2021.
The keystone accomplishments of the present administration in the areas of economic and development; infrastructure; human development and poverty reduction; participatory governance; security, justice and peace; and climate change adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction were presented in the form of audio-visual presentations.
In a presentation, among the notable accomplishments of the government in Cagayan Valley region were also highlighted to include: the Chico River Pump Project that will irrigate around 8,700 hectares of prime agricultural lands in the municipalities of Tuao and Piat in Cagayan (Region 2) and Pinukpuk in Kalinga (CAR); the Dalton Pass East Alternate route which will serve as an alternative to the Dalton Pass and ensure interrupted traffic flow between Cagayan Valley and the rest of Luzon; flood alleviation initiatives particularly the widening of Cagayan River in the municipalities of Lal-lo and Gattaran in Cagayan; the Camalaniugan Bridge (Manila North Road – Jct Cagayan Valley Road) which aims to ensure continuous access between eastern municipalities of Cagayan province to its western municipalities including Northern Cordillera and Ilocos Region provinces; and the Amulung Mega Bridge and Road Network, a one kilometer-long bridge project of Rep. Lara designed to connect the eastern to the western sides of the town, which is divided by the Cagayan River.
Nograles added that Region 2 being the top corn producer in the country can also explore and strengthen ‘adlay’ farming and production.
“Region 2 continues to implement advocacy activities relative to nutrition and provision of training and capacity building for LGUs. He added that Region 2 Nutrition Council passed resolutions integrating nutrition programs in the LGUs’ investment programs and promoting E-nutribun in feeding programs,” the cabinet secretary added.
He added that the DTI Diskwentro Caravan conducted 85 runs serving about 398 barangays and 63,774 households April to December 4,2020. The total sales amounted to P10 million.
On the part of the DA Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita, Nograles said it has recorded more than P25 million in sales in Refion 2 since July 2020.
For his part, Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III gave a keynote speech in the event, being the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Region 02. He also presented the gains of the agency in its programs and services in the region.
“Despite the country faced numerous challenges in the past years, the present Administration remains steadfast in ensuring that government’s programs are effectively and efficiently implemented in the regional and sub-regional levels,” Bello said.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary George Apacible, for his part, said the plans of the government have been insured to continue serving the Filipino people especially now during these most difficult circumstances.
“All these accomplishments are geared toward providing a comfortable life to all. True to the name of the event, this is a legacy, a legacy of change that we will leave to our country,” Apacible added. (MDCT/PIA-2)
