DAVAO CITY- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-XI (BJMP-XI) is currently conducting a thorough investigation regarding the death of a PDL (Person Deprived of Liberty) inside the Davao City Jail-Male Dormitory last May 10.
A PDL identified as Jerry Nick Maño, 28 years old, from Brgy.31-2, Bolton, Davao City was reported unconscious inside his cell by his cellmates. The Nurse on Duty conducted and immediate assessment and medical intervention.
“A Dispatch Team was immediately coordinated and was able to transport the said PDL to Southern Philippines Medical Center. The said team tried to revive the said PDL on their way to SPMC. However, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival on or about 3:32 pm on the said date,” read the statement of BJMP-XI regarding the death of the PDL.
Jail Chief Superintendent Leo Baldon said they are welcoming investigating bodies to conduct their independent investigation.
Meanwhile all BJMP jails are still on lockdown with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Davao City Jail Male Dormitory has currently no COVID case as they are strictly implementing health protocols. All jail officers are prohibited from unnecessary contact witl all PDL to avoid the risk of COVID-19 infection. (with reports from BJMP-XI/RG ALAMA)
