DAVAO CITY (PIA) – In the latest Usapang Pangkalusugan: Let’s DOH it, BETTER! virtual presser of the Department of Health XI held today, the Department of Health XI identified Tagum City as having the most number of COVID 19 cases in the entire region with 119 cases between May 2 to May 8.
In Davao Region, there are 1,258 active cases as of May 9, 2021 out of the 24,237 total number of cases since the start of the pandemic.
DOH XI regional director Dr. Annabelle Yumang announced the Top 10 areas with the most new cases for the week: Tagum City; Talomo South District; Buhangin; Talomo North; Sasa District; Talomo Central all in Davao City; Compostela, Davao de Oro; Sto Tomas, Panabo, and Carmen in Davao del Norte.
Tagum City Health Officer Dr. Arnel Florendo admitted that isolation facilities in the city are almost occupied which is a sign that cases in Tagum continue to be on the rise.
“We have seen COVID cases in workplaces, even in health facilities, and public places. Our solution now is to come up with stricter measures even if we are already in the Modified General Community Quarantine category, we are not yet in the normal situation,” Dr. Florendo said.
The health official shared that the local government units is coming up with an executive order that would reiterate prohibitions on situations that often lead to transmission especially in workplaces.
City Government employees will no longer be allowed to eat and take their meals together in an enclosed area as many are prone to transmit the virus during unguarded moments.
Employees will also be prohibited to loiter after office hours while department heads in the city government are empowered to police their ranks and may report violators.
Essential gatherings that may not be conducive if done online, may be permitted to be conducted but in an open space. Organizers need to present to the LGU a plan following the compliance to the health protocols. This way, the LGU is ensured that organizers will be liable incase violations to these protocols will be made.
The LGU will also intensify its inspection in public places such as markets and malls. The Tagum City mayor also plans to expand the executive order to cover not just government offices but also in private companies. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
