BANGUED, Abra, May 25(PIA) –- The Lacub Sunrise Association received production equipment for banana chips making from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for their livelihood development.
The awarded equipment worth Php 106,000 include fryers, slicers, weighing scales, packaging sealers and other kitchen utensils needed for their production
DOST-Abra Provincial Director Ralf Sapi-il said that this is in line with DOST’s Local Grants-In-Aid (LGIA) Program which aims to spur economic and livelihood development in local communities through technological capabilities.
To capacitate the members on production process, DOST-Abra tapped Jacson’s Homemade Products as its partner in conducting Banana Chip Production Training. Jacson’s enterprise is one of the leading local delicacies producers in the province which was assisted by government agencies such as DOST and the Department of Trade and Industry during its humble beginnings.
The participants were taught the detailed process of banana chips making starting from sorting, peeling, slicing, seasoning, frying and even the packaging process for a ready-to-market produce.
They also underwent a session on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure that their products are following food safety standards.
Association President Rosita F. Marcos thanked this initiative of the government in assisting local associations for extra income of their members considering that Lacub is also identified as one of the priority areas under the Community Support Program.
Under the 2021 LGIA of DOST-Abra, ten more projects will be implemented by associations, cooperatives and women’s associations their livelihood and economic development. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
