CEBU CITY, May 31 (PIA) -- The payouts for the Cash-For-Work program of Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services-Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KALAHI-CIDSS-KKB) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 7 has started in Medellin, Daanbantayan, and Samboan municipalities on May 19, 20, and 25, 2021.
According to DSWD-7 Regional Information Officer Leah Quintana, their office has released P2.5-M for 974 beneficiaries who had the opportunity to work for five to 10 days by cleaning the streets and shorelines and disinfecting public areas in their community.
Beneficiaries also engaged in backyard gardening which they consider important during the pandemic.
“Dako akong pasalamat sa DSWD sa mga nagpaluyo ining programa kay nahatagan ko og higayon nga mapalambo ang akoang pagpananom og utanon (I am very grateful to this program because it gave me the opportunity to improve my vegetable farm),” shared Bernarda Pino of Brgy. Curva, Medellin.
Pino added that planting in her own backyard has provided their daily food even after the program.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Rebecca Geamala, local government officials, and congressmen attended the activity in their respective towns.
The program also released a P350,000 grant on May 26 for the municipality of Guindulman in Bohol with 96 beneficiaries and P650,000 for 513 beneficiaries in Garcia and Sierra Bullones next week, said Quintana.
Other municipalities in Cebu province, namely Barili, Tabogon, and Talisay City are expected to have their payouts soon. (jsme/PIA7 with reports from DSWD-7)
