ILOCOS SUR, May 7 (PIA) – Three new municipalities in Ilocos Sur province were placed under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status effective today, May 6 until May 19, 2021 in order to have more stringent quarantine restrictions.

Governor Ryan Luis Singson issued Executive Order (EO) No. 34 this Thursday reclassifying the towns of Banayoyo, Galimuyod and Santiago from modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) to MECQ in order to contain the virus.

“Despite the interventions and implementation of measures, the threat of COVID-19 in the province remains very high and alarming as there are 1, 223 recorded confirmed cases wherein 247 of them are active cases with extensive contacts as of May 5, 2021,” Governor Singson said.

“Some of the municipalities of the province have been identified as moderate-risk areas having an Average Daily Attack Rate (ADAR) and two-week growth rate (2WGR) as follows: Cervantes-4.65 ADAR (167% 2WGR); Narvacan-3.86 ADAR (750% 2WGR); San Juan-2.65 ADAR (250% 2WGR); San Vicente-3.14 ADAR (300% 2WGR); Sinait-2.73 ADAR (40% 2WGR); and Sta. Maria-1.98 ADAR (20% 2WGR),” the EO reads.

He said that based on these data, the Provincial Task Force against COVID-19 recommended the reclassification of the community quarantine status of the municipalities of Cervantes, Narvacan, San Juan, San Vicente, Sinait and Sta. Maria from MGCQ to GCQ in order to contain the transmission.

“After having been placed under MECQ for several weeks and having slightly reduced their recorded positive cases, the Provincial Task Force against COVID-19 also recommended the reclassification of Candon City and Caoayan from MECQ to GCQ,” the governor added.

GCQ is the second lowest of the four quarantine rungs in the Philippines.
