MAMBAJAO, Camiguin, May 28 (PIA)--Focused on protecting their people and saving lives from the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, the Municipal Government of Mambajao allocated P6 million to augment the provincial government's P30 million budget for the COVID-19 vaccination to all residents of Camiguin.
"It is enough since the free vaccines from the national government are coming and we have a lot of people getting vaccinated na (already). We have 171 number of persons per day getting vaccinated," Mambajao Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo said during the Network Briefing News with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, May 28.
He added that he is positive that they can provide the vaccines needed in their town and they are going to augment the supply needed for those who are eligible to be inoculated soon.
As for the COVID-19 vaccination program, Romualdo said they have been very aggressive in conducting information, education campaigns.
“We’ve been to every barangay answering their questions so I would like to thank our doctors and our nurses for doing this. There is still hesitancy [on the vaccine] but as of yesterday, we had a total of 2,739 nga nagpa-vaccinate na (who were already vaccinated),” Romualdo added.
From the said number, 1,995 got their first dose. This constitutes 7.75 percent of the population in Mambajao.
Taking his first jab of COVID-19 vaccine, Romualdo said he was nervous at first and even his blood pressure went high but when he finally got the vaccine he said, "After that, it was normal. I didn’t feel anything so I'm fine and totally fine now. It was very smooth, 'yung (the) process of getting vaccinated."
Tourism reopening in Mambajao
As of now, Romualdo said the province is restricting travels only to essential and emergency purposes only.
“We are actually preparing na sana (supposedly) for the opening of our tourism pero (but) with what’s happening in our region, we are just waiting. If the situation will get better, the province again will convene our provincial IATF [Inter Agency Task Force] if ano 'yung plans namin (on the plans we'll have),” he added.
Currently, the province just allows the local residents to visit their tourist spots with strict observance of the minimum public health standards and the protocols set by the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Romualdo said they just recently released a video on the safety guidelines for Mambajao to guide local residents on the health protocols that should be followed while visiting the sites.
"We are very happy also na (that) we’ve opened for local tourists so the people of Mambajao, the people of Camiguin can enjoy first before we officially open [to the public]," the mayor shared.
As of May 27, the town has recorded six confirmed COVID-19 cases of which one is handled at the town’s isolation unit and the five are availing the no quarantine policy. There are 52 recovered cases, and no probable and suspect cases recorded in Mambajao. (RTP/PIA10)
