MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL, May 30 (PIA)—As the COVID-19 cases arise in the province, Misamis Occidental Governor Philip Tan urged the local government units (LGUs) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to strictly enforce necessary health and safety protocols, particularly in borders and public places.
He also called for greater cooperation and continuing vigilance from the public to slow the spread of the virus.
To strictly implement health protocols, Tan said the LGUs, police enforcers, and barangays should continue to monitor and check public places if the people follow health protocols.
He said temperature checks and filling out contact tracing forms manually or through the Stay Safe app should also be encouraged in all establishments and work places.
The governor appealed to the public not to fall into compliance fatigue and continue to remain disciplined and vigilant against the virus.
"The best solution is to wear proper face masks, coupled with face shields and social distancing further reduces the risk against COVID-19,” he reminded.
Tan added that a small breach in protocols could lead to higher transmission of the virus, more cases and possibly deaths.
“We advise government employees not to travel and visit within MisOcc and the regional offices, and not to accept visitors from regional offices and other offices within MisOcc until we lower down our cases within northern Mindanao. Meetings and transactions are encouraged to be done thru webinar except when delivering basic health services and COVID related activities. Private institutions are encouraged to follow," Tan said.
As of May 25, Misamis Occidental has a total of 2,361 COVID-19 confirmed cases. Of this number, 322 are active cases, 1,964 have recovered, and 75 have expired. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
