MMDA chief lauds Metro Manila mayors for unified action vs COVID-19

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos

PASIG CITY, May 7 (PIA) -- Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Benhur Abalos lauded the 17 Metro Manila mayors for their unified action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am so proud of the mayors of Metro Manila. Sa bawat polisiya tungkol sa pandemya ay isang boses lamang sila" said Abalos, during the recent Bakuna Benefits Live.

"Sa kanilang pagbobotohan, walang malaki o walang maliit na lungsod at munisipalidad. Isa lang ang boses nila. In Metro Manila, things are doing well, COVID19 cases are constantly decreasing," he added.

The MMDA chief also said the National Capital Region (NCR) is seeing an improvement not only in its COVID-19 response but in the decline of reported new cases, as Metro Manila remains the center of the pandemic in the country.

Likewise, he said Metro Manila local government units are now preparing for the influx of COVID-19 vaccines and mass inoculation programs.

According to Abalos, the government is aiming to generate herd immunity from COVID 19 in Metro Manila by November of this year. (PIA NCR)
