Ozamiz City starts vaccination for senior citizens

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, May 6 (PIA)—The City Government of Ozamiz started the initial vaccination of senior citizens against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) using the 800 doses of Sinovac, May 4.

Some officials, members of business chamber, local government unit (LGU) employees and senior citizens received their first shots of Sinovac vaccines at Malaubang Covered Court.

The first day of inoculation rollout is led by Second District Rep. Henry Oaminal, Archbishop Martin Jumoad, Vice Mayor Simplicia Neri and Senior Citizen members of the City Council to encourage fellow senior citizens to get vaccinated.

Senior citizen officials, who were inoculated expressed their experience at the vaccination site, said they have not encountered problems since the start of the vaccine launching.

 “It has strengthened more the confidence, it has boosts my morale because during the injection process gatuo ko nga sakit ang injection (I believe that receiving the vaccine is painful). The anticipated reactions, kaluoy sa Ginoo ang akong BP (thank God my blood pressure) is okay. My condition is very normal,” Oaminal said.

The city government also stressed the importance of vaccinating the elderly who belong to the second priority group.

Federated Senior Citizen Virginia Villamor said she did not hesitate to get vaccinated to protect herself from the virus saying, “When I heard of the vaccination, I was afraid because of the Dengvaxia experience but now, I want to be protected and I want to travel. I am ready and excited even if it’s painful but I’m ready to be vaccinated.”

Oaminal also extends financial assistance worth P1,000 to the senior citizens who are vaccinated.

As of May 4, the local government vaccinated over 124 people that includes senior citizens chapter presidents, LGU employees, representative of chamber of commerce and other senior citizens.

The vaccination of the seniors will continue this month. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
