PCA calls for nomination for farmer representative

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 1 (PIA) - - The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) has encouraged coconut farmers' organizations, association or cooperatives to nominate and participate in the selection and nomination of farmer representative in the PCA board. 

Dennis Andres, regional manager, said the search aims to identify farmer-leaders that could best represent their organization and participate in the upcoming and provincial conventions.

He said a nominee must be a Filipino citizen, registers with the PCA's coconut farmers' registry and own not more than five hectares of coconut farm in the last ten years. 

He also said the farmer representative must be  nominated by coconut farmers organizations or cooperatives that are active for the past three years and have considerable experience and reputable track record in promoting coconut farmer's interest and welfare. 

As to the requirements for nominating, Andres also stated that an organization, association or cooperative must be active in the past three years in the farmer organization and development or community enterprise development, it must comprised of 51 percent majority of its members must be coconut farmers and coconut farm workers. 

He added also tat the nominee must possess appropriate valid registration from the Securities and Exchange Commission or Cooperative Development Authority, or Department of Labor and Employment or any existing Philippine Coconut Authority accreditation. 

The Republic Act 11524 or the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act mandated government representatives in the reconstituted PCA Board to coordinate with PCA in promulgating a nomination and screening process for the nominees of the representatives of the coconut farmers in consultation with their respective organizations or associations. 

There will be three members from the coconut farmers sector that the President will be appointing to seat in the PCA board, one each form Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
