PASIG CITY, June 1 (PIA) -- For the first time, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will feature living Filipinos who have brought inspiration, joy, pride and glory to the Filipino community and contributed in their chosen field.
“This is our own little way of honoring and acknowledging their great effort and contribution to society,” Postmaster General Norman “Mr. Postman” Fulgencio said.
According to PHLPost, they will be issuing stamps for acclaimed Filipino movie stars, writers, designers, sports personalities, musicians, artists, scientists, and other nationally and internationally known figures, both living and deceased.
“We want to create some excitement and even inspire young people to engage in patronizing the stamps,” Fulgencio said adding that they saw the need to review and change some of the old procedures when it comes to honoring living persons in stamps.
"This change in procedures will enable us to pay tribute to individuals on their achievements while they are still alive to enjoy the honor of being featured in stamps.”
The PHLPost chief also said that very few notable living personalities have been featured in stamps noting that they will be more inclusive in giving honor and recognition to Filipinos living and deceased.
Also, part of this process is to immortalize those never forgotten persons or individual achievers (posthumous stamps) alongside with the Filipino living legends, he explained.
“It would be nice to showcase all the Filipinos who greatly contributed to the joy, inspiration and pride of the nation. This would also spark interest and fun for people of all ages and, hopefully, encourage them to collect and patronize Filipino stamps.”
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) Postal administration countries’ have also adopted new ways to improve the release and printing of stamps. (PIA NCR)
