Sustainable livelihood program helps fire victims recover livelihood

CEBU CITY, May 31 (PIA) -- Fire victims in Brgy. Poblacion, Talisay City received cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 7 under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) to help them recover their livelihood.

Jessa Cabusas, one of the 12 recipients, shared that with the P20,000 cash assistance they received from SLP, they have slowly revived their business.

Nakabangon gyud mi pagkadawat namo sa assistance. Mao kini among gigamit pagbangon sa negosyo. Ang ginansya gigamit usa namo sa pag-upgrade to selling vegetables ug pagpa-extend sa tindahan (We revived the business when we received the assistance. We used the profit to sell vegetables and to extend our store),” said Jessa.

Niabot man ang pandemic human sa sunog pero naka-recover ra pud kay nakapadayon mi sa pagpaninda, sa hinayhinay ni kita ra man gihapon, motoltol ra ang mga mamalitay sa amo tindahan (The pandemic came after the fire, but we survived and slowly recovered. We continued selling and slowly making money because people patronize our store),” added Cabusas, recalling their struggles.

Jessa survived the fire incident in Talisay City and according to her, the assistance has helped them recovered their losses.

In 2020, the SLP has released the P330-M livelihood assistance for referrals, fire victims, E.O. 70 and the Livelihood Assistance Grant which caters to a total of 38,779 families or households in Region 7. (jsme/PIA7 with reports from DSWD-7)
