TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 27 (PIA) – Not only that they will provide quality seeds but to help the Department of Agriculture in its Hybridization Program to help farmers achieve better and higher yields than the usual.
This after said companies namely SL Agritech Corporation,Bayer Cropscience Philippines, Corteva Agriscience Philippines Inc., Syngenta Philippines Inc., Longping Tropical Rice Development Inc., Seedworks Philippines Inc., Bioseed Research Philippines Inc., Aljay Agro-Industrial Solutions Inc. and UPL Philippines Inc. - Advanta Seeds entered into a memorandum of agreement with the department in the implementation of said program.
The strong partnership with these private companies according to Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo is very important for the farmer as they will also provide package of technologies of their products as well as to help in the profiling of farmers, establishment of production learning venter, adopt a hybrid cluster areas and provide assistance in the monitoring and management of pests like the fall army worm (FAW).
DA’s target to achieve rice sufficiency is through rice hybridization which is now being implemented in the region.
Last month, Isabela province hosted the 12th National Rice Technology Forum where different hybrid rice varieties were showcased through a techno-demo for farmers to see what’s best for them. The forum focused on the latest technologies in rice production that includes hybrid seeds, use of fertilizers and pesticides and farmers adoptive capacity.
Host Mayor Bernard Faustino M. Dy of Cauayan City has thanked the department and assured his support to the program as he has seen the program to uplift the lives of farmers.
Today, farmers can also avail of the technology through the department’s School on the Air program. (GVB)
