CALOOCAN CITY, June 2 (PIA) -- Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday, June 1, approved the request of four more schools in the city to conduct limited face-to-face classes for their medical and allied health programs.
"All approved," Domagoso told the schools' representatives from the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila, Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), PHINMA St. Jude College (SJC), and National University (NU), in a meeting held at the Manila City Hall. The four are the latest ones allowed to resume limited face-to-face classes.
In accordance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd)-Department of Health (DOH) Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) No. 2021-001 on the "Guidelines on the Gradual Reopening of Campuses of Higher Education Institutions for Limited Face-to-Face Classes During the COVID-19 Pandemic," the schools submitted to the LGU their respective plans on how they will comply with health protocols in the face-to-face sessions. Domagoso stated: "I trust everyone to follow the health protocols. Mas gusto ko 'yung kayo ang magkusang disiplina."
Domagoso immediately signed all the letters of intent submitted by the schools' representatives. He then encouraged them to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by updating them on the progress of the LGU's mass vaccination program, which vaccinated a record high of 22,066 people in one day last May 27.
Domagoso urged the schools to have everyone in their campuses vaccinated. He said this would be possible once the go-signal is given to vaccinate those in the A4 category. "The A4 category has been simplified," the mayor said. "It now includes all workers who are required to go outside their their homes to perform their jobs. Kaya pwede na ang halos lahat. Antabayanan lang natin ang announcement na pwede na ang A4 and, of course, when vaccines are available."
Domagoso also assured the schools' representatives that the LGU, through the Manila Health Department (MHD), would give them the support they would need in case they report people getting infected with COVID-19 in their campuses.
"We will make sure that every single cent that you have paid to the city [for your taxes] is fully utilized to protect you from harm and, of course, hopefully from this virus," the mayor said.
"We want to make you feel that Manila is a good place to live in. Mapapanatag ko man lang ang damdamin ninyo araw-araw," he added. (PIA NCR)
