COTABATO CITY – A remote village in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanaohas receiveda completed PHP3.5-million barangay hall, the first of 249 other barangay buildings currently being built across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

“The first village started using this two-story barangay hall building is the village of Banubo in Sultan Kudarat town,” BARMM Interior Minister Naguib Sinarimbo told reporters on Friday.

Sinarimbo led the turnover of the new Banubo barangay hall building to village officials on Thursday afternoon.

The barangay structure, he said, was funded by the BARMM government with the local government unit providing the land area as a counterpart.

“We are impressed by the quality of workmanship and spirit of unity displayed by the leaders of this barangay and their constituents throughout the construction of this project,” Sinarimbo said.

He said when the Moro Islamic Liberation Front assumed leadership of BARMM, they found out that there were some 400 barangays across the region that have no barangay halls.

“More than 200 were existing but dilapidated,” Sinarimbo said.

He said BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim has directed him in 2019 to prioritize the construction of barangay halls to give due respect and recognition to village officials and the barangay government.

“The barangay halls are intended to serve as the center of government service delivery in communities, the most direct focus of interaction between the people and the government,” Sinarimbo said.

Across the region, he said 249 other modern barangay halls of similar design will be completed by the BARMM’s Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) before the year ends.

“We, at the MILG-BARMM, will be busy attending turnover ceremonies in the coming days as other barangay halls are nearing completion in the region,” he said. (PNA)
