LAOAG CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has conferred a safety seal to the 150 megawatt (MW) wind power facility located in Burgos town, Ilocos Norte.
The certification indicates that the company follows minimum health and safety protocols on coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) set by the government.
"In the Covid-19 pandemic, we became proactive in establishing the working protocols and precautionary measures. The safety seal certification is a proof and an affirmation that we take our work culture seriously even during the most challenging times,” said Andy Durog, head of the Energy Development Corporation’s Burgos Wind Power Corporation in a statement Friday.
Durog said the Burgos wind farm voluntarily applied for the safety certification to reassure that their employees, contractors, and host communities are safe as they operate to provide an uninterrupted source of clean, reliable power.
The 680-hectare wind farm covers three barangays in Burgos town that supplies power to more than two million households in the Philippines.
“In our huddles, we include safety, health, environment and security tips for the week. This is the way to improve awareness and also to remind employees to religiously follow our safety protocols because an ounce of prevention is better than gallons of cure,” Durog added.
EDC is the largest pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, operating 1,186 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of wind, 132 MW of hydroelectric power, and 12 MW of solar power plants— for a total of 1,480 MW of clean and renewable energy. (PNA)
