ILOILO CITY – Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has urged Ilonggos to get vaccinated for the Christmas celebration to be merry.
In a media interview on Thursday afternoon, Defensor said there remain hesitancy issues even if local government units have been explaining to their constituents the benefits of getting the jab against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“We will continue to explain and urge them to get vaccinated (for their and their family's protection),” he said.
Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that as of November 3, the province has administered the first dose to 548,901 individuals while 374,462 have been vaccinated.
The province targets to vaccinate 1,448,757 eligible people.
Defensor said the province has so far received 1,127,708 doses of various brands of vaccines.
“We can only go as far as (the volume of) vaccines being delivered to us,” he said.
However, the governor was informed that the province is expecting at least 100,000 doses in the next few days.
The province will hire 1,092 medical doctors, nurses, and midwives to boost the vaccination capacity of the municipalities.
“We have requested our mayors to recruit personnel in the municipalities that the province can hire to add to our vaccination teams in the municipalities. That is how we intend to accelerate the vaccination program of the province,” Defensor added.
Other agencies may also identify personnel who could join the vaccination teams in the municipalities.
The Department of Education, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Red Cross are sending personnel to help ramp up the province’s vaccination rollout.
The “Bulig Bakuna” has helped fast-track the vaccination down to the barangays after its launch by the provincial government in September to help municipalities increase their inoculation accomplishment.
Teams are deployed to thickly-populated barangays and those with a high incidence of confirmed Covid-19 cases at the request of local government units. (PNA)
