MANILA – About 62 Filipinos were vaccinated per second on the way to eight million during the nationwide “Bayanihan, Bakunahan”, acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said as he commended all entities and individuals involved in the November 29 to December 1 events.
The Philippines also submitted the fourth-highest single-day tally of jabs administered in the world at 2.8 million during the third and last day.
Some local government units extended their massive drive for two more days.
“Suma total, nasa mahigit eight million ang total vaccines administered sa tatlong araw o katumbas sa 89.06 percent ng ating committed target (Overall, 8.01 million vaccines were administered in three days or equivalent to 89.06 percent of our committed target),” Nograles said in a press briefing on Friday.
All vaccination centers were operational at an average of 12 hours during the three-day campaign.
“If that is the case, eight million people vaccinated over the course of 36 hours is approximately 222,500 Filipinos vaccinated per hour, or 3,708 people vaccinated per minute, or something like 62 Filipinos vaccinated per second. ‘Yan po ang nagawa nitong (Those were the achievements of the) national vaccination days,” Nograles shared in a statement on Saturday.
As of December 2, the national Covid-19 Vaccination Dashboard indicated 90.2 million doses have been administered nationwide, 48.42 percent or 37.3 million individuals of whom are fully inoculated.
The expanded rollout of booster or additional doses for all fully vaccinated individuals aged 18 and above, including Phase II for A3 or those with comorbidities, also began on Friday.
“Tandaan natin na importanteng magpabakuna sa gitna ng banta ng Omicron variant (Let us keep in mind how important it is to get vaccinated with the threat of the Omicron variant),” Nograles said, emphasizing that 99 percent of vaccinated Filipinos did not experience adverse reactions.
Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau Director, Dr. Alethea de Guzman, also explained that for now, the Omicron has the potential for increased transmissibility but there is no evidence yet that it will cause more severe symptoms or death or that it affects specific age groups.
