Magnitude 6.1 quake hits Davao Occidental

MANILA – Aftershocks are expected after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Sunday although damage is unlikely, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake struck 285 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island at 7:48 a.m.

It had a depth of 156 kilometers.

Intensity II was reported in Cateel, Davao Oriental.

Damage starts at intensity VI, based on Phivolcs' scale. (PNA)
