MANILA – The low-pressure area (LPA) that the weather bureau has been monitoring will cause scattered rains over a huge part of the country on Wednesday.

This LPA was last tracked at 15 km. northeast of Davao City or in the vicinity of Laak, Davao de Oro.

"It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours but we still consider the possibility that it may develop into one," Grace Castañeda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA forecast the LPA to cause scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan and Mindanao and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas.

"The LPA will continue to bring rains over (these areas) and the public is advised to take precautions and be alert against possible flooding and landslides," Castañeda said.

Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow will cause rains over Cagayan Valley, central Luzon, and Quezon, and isolated light rains over the rest of Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the entire archipelago.

Strong to gale force winds are forecast over the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of central Luzon, the western seaboard of northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA)
