Rebuilding of razed convent eyed in Maguindanao

Christian and Muslim alumni of the Catholic-run Notre Dame of Dulawan (NDD) High School in Maguindanao del Sur are eyeing to rebuild an old convent razed to the ground by a fire Friday night.

Residents were seen rushing to the rescue of three Oblates of Notre Dame (OND) Sisters, the residents of the convent, according to carpenter Mastura Samayatin, himself an alumnus. He said he had alerted the Municipal Fire Station with barely
a text left of his mobile phone load.

Datuali Uka Ibrahim, an alumnus, raised the suggestion that “with all humility” the school’s alumni should help rebuild the convent.

NDD Alumni President Hanalyn Sandatu-Piang said she was supposed to be
at the opening Sunday of a Muslim prayer room building with her niece
and fellow alumna, Bangsamoro Member of Parliament Sittie Fahani
Uy-Oyod.

Authorities were still investigating the origin of the fire which took place slightly past 7:00 p.m. when the neighborhoods around the school rushed-in, amid a blinding mix of thick smoke and darkness, due to frequent blackout in the town. No one was reported in the fire.
