‘More benefits for centenarians, seniors’

More benefits will be given to centenarians and senior citizens once a bill that has been passed by the legislative bicameral conference committee is signed into law.

The chairman of the House committee on senior citizens affairs, Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes of the Seniors Citizens Party-list, on Thursday said the bicameral committee agreed to set at P10,000 the cash gift to be given to Filipino seniors within one year when they turn 80, 85, 90, and 95.

When the senior reaches age 100, the cash gift will be P100,000 and will be given within one year, Ordanes added.

He said the lawmakers agreed on the need for the Senate-proposed Elderly Data Management System.

“With the work on the reconciled bill done, the next steps would be ratification by both chambers and then sending (of) the bill to Malacañang for (President Marcos’) signature,” Ordanes said.

He said both chambers of Congress “will also look for ways to make sure the funding source is identified to ensure its implementation.”
