Two earthquakes that came about half an hour apart shook Surigao del Sur province Sunday morning, with no casualty or structural damage so far reported.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first tremor which occurred at 10:20 a.m. had magnitude 5.3 and the second was a magnitude 5.2.
Phivolcs logged the first quake’s its epicentre at 08.38°N, 127.13°E – 087 km N 89° E of the municipality of Hinatuan. It had a depth of 10 km and was tectonic in origin.
The second earthquake on the other hand occurred at 11:02 a.m. with its epicenter at 08.52°N, 126.72°E – 045 km N 68° E of Hinatuan.
The quakes had a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the twin earthquakes were aftershocks of the magnitude 7.4 temblor that hit Surigao del Sur on December 2.
No damage and no aftershocks are expected following Sunday’s earthquakes.
