DUMAGUETE CITY, May 21 (PIA) -- Rebel returnees in Negros Oriental were among those who received the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash aid from the national government.
Philippine Army officials in the province reported this in a press briefing organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force-Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) yesterday at the IATF Multi-Agency Coordinating Center (MACC), this city.
“Nag-coordinate kami sa Department of Social Welfare and Development kung beneficiary ba iyong former rebel. Nandoon naman ang mga pangalan nila. Siniguro namin natanggap talaga nila yung pera (We have coordinated with the DSWD and verified if there are former rebels included in the list of SAP beneficiaries. Their names were there and we made sure that they directly received the cash aid),” said Capt. Raymond Jamisal of the 62nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
The 62nd Infantry Battalion covers Guihulngan City, Canlaon City, Vallerhermoso, and La Libertad.
LTC. Ramir Redosendo, 11th Infantry Battalion Commander, disclosed that some former rebels in their area also received the said cash aid.
The 11th Infantry Battalion’s coverage area includes the cities and municipalities from Bais City to Basay.
The two Philippine Army officials said there are no reports of misuse of cash aid from former rebels.
“So far so good. Wala pa naman tayong namo-monitor na ganyan (We have not monitored an incident on the misuse of cash assistance),” Redosendo said.
He also clarified that in terms of monitoring whether SAP beneficiaries used the money properly, the Philippine Army is coordinating with other agencies that are in-charge of checking if the financial aid was utilized appropriately.
Meanwhile, both officials also shared an update on their support interventions on the province’s control measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the same press briefing.
The Philippine Army has provided security augmentation to the local police force and the officers of the Department of Health (DOH) by deploying Army officers to the 27 border and internal quarantine checkpoints.
Aside from this, they also assisted in re-packing relief aid intended for families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
Army personnel also provided security during the SAP distribution in different cities and towns in the province. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
