TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 19 (PIA) - - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has already issued more than 60 special permits to public utility vehicles plying in the region.
However, Regional Director Edward Cabase said the permits are inter-provincial routes within the region only as travels to and from outside the regional boundaries are not yet allowed.
"But not all of those given permits have started with their travel schedules because there are some Local Governnent Units that require them to attend orientations and comply with the standards they set to ensure safety versus the virus," Cabase said.
He also said there are safety measures that the operators and drivers should strictly follow to prevent spread of COVID-19 and only 50 percent of the total number of passengers should be allowed per travel.
Cabase also said that they will soon issue new matrix indicating the approved new rate fare rate.
"But this will be very minimal adjustment only in the fare rate. We can assure you that," the director said.
On the other hand, Cabase stressed that the issuance of special permits doesn't mean encouraging people to go anywhere.
"The safest way to avoid being infected with the virus is to stay at home. If you doesn't have any important thing to do outside your residence, do not go out," Cabase advised.
With the new normal situation caused by the pandemic, he said, there is no assurance as to when will the original travel schemes be back into normal. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
