28 arrested for hoarding, profiteering in CagVal

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 3 (PIA) -  The relentless campaign of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the region on anti-hoarding and anti-profiteering from March 15 to June 15, 2020 resulted to the arrest of 28 violators.

Regional Director Lea Ocampo said they were able to conduct 53 joint operations with the PNP – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and local government units.

Ocampo said since the price freeze took effect due to COVID-19 pandemic, the department’s enforcement and monitoring team conducted weekly operations in the different provinces.

“Under the new normal, we do both physical and online monitoring and validate reports as necessary if only to protect our consumers,” she said,

Of the 1,022 monitoring activities conducted, the department was able to monitor 5,266 establishments to include supermarkets.

“We are very vigilant and busy taking care of our consumers,” Ocampo said referring to unreasonable price increase during the Enhanced and General Community Quarantine periods.

She urged the public to continue to be vigilant and report to the department any form of abuse from business owners in the region. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2- Cagayan)
