DA CALABARZON awards farm machinery to Tiaong Farmers' group

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, July 2 (PIA) --The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON, through its High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), awarded a multi-tiller machine to the Punla ng Cabatang Farmers’ Association on June 29, 2020 at the Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO) in Brgy. Lagalag, Tiaong, Quezon.

Marvin R. PateƱa, Agriculturist I and APCO-Quezon HVCDP-based staff said the distribution activity is part of the ongoing implementation of DA CALABARZON’s agricultural support for high value crops farmers under its CY 2020 regular fund.

He added the multi-tiller machine is being used for the preparation of agricultural land, specifically at the tilling or cultivation stage. This kind of mechanization would save farmers’ time and lessen the cost of additional labor.

Meanwhile, Marites S. Laydia, Farmer-Treasurer of the association, shared her gratitude to DA CALABARZON.

“Ang naipamahagi ng DA CALABARZON na multi-tiller sa aming samahan ay napakalaking tulong upang mapadali ang mga gawain sa aming taniman," Laydia said.

The Punla ng Cabatang Farmers’ Association is a local farmers’ group in Tiaong, Quezon. Since May 2011, the group have been producing vegetable crops such as eggplant, cassava, cucumber, sitaw, okra, ampalaya, and siling pula to supply local markets and generate income that would support their farming and family needs.

At present, the association has 32 active members who own two cow heads acquired from their own funds. (PIA-4A/JAPE, DA-RFO IVA, RAFIS)
