MAASIN CITY, July 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Southern Leyte Provincial Office through Provincial Director Engr. Florita Santiago is calling applicants for the Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH) program in support to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by COVID-19.
In a recent press briefing held at the PIA-Southern Leyte Office, Santiago said the iFWD PH aims to provide support and opportunities for OFWs and their immediate families to establish technology-based enterprises, especially during this time of pandemic.
Santiago said the program has two phases. Phase I include the capability building for the development and management of a technology-based enterprise while Phase II will include innovation on funding sources for technology-based enterprise.
Santiago added that Phase I entails core business and technical trainings and presentation of package technologies, the business concept and its plan preparation while Phase II focuses on the funding sources after the phase I concept is complete.
“The applicant cannot proceed immediately to Phase II without completing Phase I,” Santiago said.
A maximum of P250,000 fund support will be provided to the qualified applicants, the amount of which will be used to acquire equipment for their business.
“The said amount will be returned to the government with zero percent interest payable within three years after one year of grace period upon receipt of the said amount,” Santiago said.
Eligibility of the applicants and the screening process will be conducted by DOST-8, including evaluation of papers/documents.
OFW-applicants are required to fill out iFWD PH profiling questionnaire, a photo copy of passport and self-certification of no existing contract and had returned to the country within the last 3 years.
On the other hand, Phase II eligibility is the completion of Phase I with its certification and Mayor’s Permit, letter of Intent addressed to DOST Regional Director, DTI/SEC/CDA registration, project proposal, among other requirements. (ldl/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
