5 brgys in Catbalogan under ‘hard lockdown’ due to surge of COVID-19 cases

CATBALOGAN CITY, Aug. 22 (PIA) -- Five barangays in Catbalogan City were placed under hard lockdown from August 22, 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. of August 25 following a surge of COVID-19 cases in said areas.

On August 21, City Mayor Dexter Uy signed Executive Order No. 08-002, an Order imposing travel restriction among residents of barangays Mercedes, Canlapwas, 03 Poblacion, 10 Poblacion, and 13 Poblacion in Catbalogan City as a precautionary measure against the possible spread of COVID-19.

Currently, Barangay Mercedes has 34 active cases, Canlapwas has 15, Poblacion 13 has 9, Poblacion 10 has 8 and Poblacion 3 has 6. The said barangays top the list of barangayas with the most number of cases. 

During the said lockdown, the contact tracing of the Department of Health (DOH) in coordination with the City Health Office shall commence in order to trace all possible contacts. Rapid testing shall also be conducted among direct contacts of the suspected case.

Healthcare workers, police and military personnel, employees of government agencies performing official functions, and barangay officials shall, however, be allowed to go outside their houses.

Further, all persons under the abovementioned barangays are considered as persons under monitoring and shall be subjected to quarantine protocols.

As of 8 a.m. of August 22, the city has 171 total COVID-19 cases, wherein 131 are active cases and 40 already recovered. (ldl/gmt/PIA-Samar)
