Antiqueños urged to support population, housing census

SAN JOSE, Antique, Aug. 6 (PIA) - - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) urged Antiqueños to support the Census on Population and Housing (CPH) set on September 1 to 30, 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Provincial Statistics Officer Jesus F. Escote, Jr., in a radio program PIA news Service of the Philippine Information Agency, emphasized the essential role of each household respondents and the local officials for the success of this year’s census. 

The CPH should have been done in May this year, however, was moved to September due to COVID-19 pandemic.

He assured that the enumerators will strictly follow the health protocol such as wearing of facemask, frequent handwashing and physical distancing during the enumeration period.

They will also be required to submit a health certificate to ensure they are fit to work and do the household enumeration, Escote said.

This year's CPH hopes to provide government executives, policy makers and planners with updated population and housing data as bases for social and economic development plans, policies and programs at the local and national levels.

For Antique, Escote enjoined the respondents to answer the enumerators honestly so the CPH could gather realistic information about the characteristic of the population, their socio-economic conditions and eventually be considered in planning for government programs and services.

PSA stressed that the information gathered will taken with utmost confidentiality in accordance with the law.

The enumerators will coordinate with the local officials and will be issued Identification Cards and uniform during the enumeration period.

More than 130,000 households are expected to be covered by the 2020 CPH based on Antique’s population count of 582,012 during the May 2015  census.

The CPH is in compliance to Batas Pambansa Bilang 72, Executive order No.352 and Republic Act No. 10625 which designates the PSA as the mandated agency to do the census.

Escote said that the first  census was in 1903 and the 2020 CPH is the 15th Census of Population and 7th Census of Housing in the Philippines. (JBG/PSM/PIA-Antique)
