PASIG CITY, Aug. 28 (PIA) --Civil Service Commission Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala yesterday appeared before the House Committees on Public Accounts and on Good Government and Public Accountability to dispel earlier statements that have placed the integrity of the constitutional office on the line.
Facing members of the Committees, Chairperson Bala denied giving orders to “suppress” the sharing of information regarding cases involving PhilHealth officials and employees.
“I am categorically stating that as the CSC Chairperson, I made no directive, guidance or insinuations for the Commission to suppress information in any case, whether on Philhealth or on any other government agency”, the CSC Chair said, adding that she is also complying with the committee’s directive to produce the transcript and video recording of the August 11, 2020 Commission meeting where investigation on Philhealth cases was discussed.
She pointed out that during the Commission’s meeting on August 11, 2020, cases pending before the CSC involving Philhealth personnel were raised in relation to CSC’s involvement in the Task Force Philhealth created by President Duterte as the Commission was called upon to assist in the investigation of the alleged Philhealth Fund Scam.
The CSC Chief clarified that none of the cases before CSC involves issues of corruption. “The pending cases before the Commission are mostly administrative cases involving personnel actions, which are non-disciplinary in nature. CSC does not handle criminal cases involving graft and corruption”, Chair Bala said.
She cited that the Commission has been actively cooperating with the Task Force Philhealth and has provided needed relevant information and technical assistance. “I would hardly call dissemination of the list as suppression of information", the CSC Chief said. (CSC/PIA-NCR)
