CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, August 9 (PIA) - -The National Dairy Authority – Northern Luzon Department (NDA-NLD) has committed to establish an extension office at the Isabela State Universty (ISU) main campus in Echague town.
The NDA is an agency attached to the Department of Agriculture (DA) which is mandated to ensure the accelerated development of the Philippine Dairy Industry (PDI) through policy direction and program implementation.
At present, NDA-NLD is located in Marilao, Bulacan which caters to the satellite offices of NDA in Tarlac, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan and Isabela.
Dr. Ricmar Aquino, ISU System President, said the proposed establishment of NDA office at ISU-Echague originated from the recommendation of the former ISU Vice President for Research and Development, Extension and Training (VP-RDET), and now the Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Livestock, Dr. William C. Medrano.
Aquino said the relocation of NDA-NLD will help ISU increase its dairy production and contribute to the program of DA Secretary William D. Dar in providing enough supply of dairy products in the region and the country.
Aquino also said he sees a potential market of the dairy milk in the province of Isabela as the Provincial Government, through the leadership of the Provincial Governor Rodolfo T. Albano III, has its program on the provision of fresh milk to the teachers and the students of the province.
Meanwhile, Deputy Administrator of NDA, Farrell Benjelix C. Magtoto, who attended the recent meeting with ISU officials, said the dairy industry plays a vital role in molding the country’s future leaders, saying the NDA is investing in the brain of future leaders.
Magtoto urged all State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Government Units (LGUs) to invest in the dairy industry considering its economic impact and in sustaining the health of Filipinos. (ALM/BME/MGE - PIA-2/Isabela)
