BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 27(PIA) -- The Department of Education - Schools Division Baguio City reported that the pilot test on the new learning modalities in selected schools and learners in the city was successful, but is considering the possibility of expanding it to other schools for the testing of specific subjects that need improvement based on the initial run.
DepEd-Baguio Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Soraya Faculo said that the DepEd Baguio together with its stakeholders and partners conducted successful pilot testing of the learning modalities which the DepEd would be using during this time of COVID-19 pandemic as the regular face to face learning is not yet allowed.
DepEd-Baguio Schools Division Superintendent Marie Carolyn Verano said DepEd was able to test the mechanics, evaluation, packaging, and delivery of modules and the use of the distance learning modalities like the use of the printed modules and on line distance learning as well as the TV-Radio instructions and social media for the selected learners.
During the pilot testing conducted from July 27 to August 24, the DepEd was able to print out four set of modules for the more than 3,000 learners from the Guisad Valley National High School and Bonifacio Elementary School in Barangay Crescencia Village and Happy Hallow National High and Happy Hallow Elementary School in Happy Hallow Barangay with the Alternative Learning System.
The modules were delivered and distributed thru the different partners such as the Baguio City Police Office and Philippine Army 503rd Brigade, barangay officials and other volunteers. They brought the materials to the learners and then retrieved them then sent them back to the respective schools and teachers.
“We saw that the pilot run was a big help to the learners especially to boost their interest on learning despite the pandemic,” Faculo said during the culmination of the pilot testing of the new learning modalities.
Faculo said that with the success of the pilot testing of the new learning modalities, the DepEd Baguio is keen on continuing the pilot test to other schools in the city of Baguio as the opening of classes is moved to October 5.
She explained that the DepEd is exploring the possibility of conducting testing of specific subjects that needs improvement based on the assessment of the DepEd and the teachers. Some of the subjects they are looking at are reading and English subjects.
During the program, the DepEd Baguio thanked and recognized their partners who supported and helped the DepEd and the learners realize the new learning modalities. Among these are the city government of Baguio, local government officials in the city and the barangays, government agencies, Parent – Teachers Associations, PNP, PA, the media and other advocates and volunteers.
City Councilor Vladimir Cayabas, who chairs the Committee on Education, Culture, and Historical Events, also thanked the different partners and stakeholders who took part of the successful pilot testing of the new learning modalities.
