BASCO, Batanes, Aug. 4 (PIA) - - The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to improve the internet connectivity in this island province in response to the online education program of the Department of Education.

Acting Governor Ignacio Villa admitted that internet connection remains to be a challenge in most areas in the province thereby limiting web-based services within the poblacion where the connection is reliable.

"If we will not improve the internet connectivity in our province, our students who have availed of the online learning modality will experience difficulty in learning," Villa said.

He also said setting up of internet services in the different municipalities will also back up the move of public and private agencies to implement online transaction.

On the other hand, Villa said the tourism industry, which is the main livelihood source of majority of the Ivatans, is greatly affected by the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic.

"We gave some assistance in the form of goods and cash grants to the affected families. This is aside from the assistance given by other government agencies," Villa added.

Despite of the pandemic, Villa said there are still sufficient food supplies in the province. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Batanes)
