CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA)--Noting that digital platform enables businesses to continue amid any crisis or emergencies, Roxas City, Capiz Mayor Ronnie Dadivas urged local government units (LGUs) to invest in modern technology and consider its advantages in promoting businesses and investments.
"We have to take advantage of this platform to promote Roxas City amid the pandemic," Dadivas said during the daily Laging Handa Network Briefing with Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, August 26.
Named as one of the Digital Cities 2025 by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Dadivas said they are chosen to be part of the Digital Cities because of their business process outsourcing, which is the largest contributor of the economy.
Dadivas added that they have a pool of talents as well as infrastructure, which is in place and ready to operate anytime. The city also has an incentive business package and an identified Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) techno hub.
Furthermore, Dadivas said they have a strong information and communications technology (ICT) council composed of the business and academe sectors.
With such investment in technology and infrastructure, the mayor urges investors to consider Roxas City in their endeavors as the city is safe for business and they still have a lot of potential that businesses could explore.
Digital platform in CDO
In Cagayan de Oro City, the LGU promotes e-commerce and electronic payment facilities to ensure effective revenue generation and give convenience to the public especially in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
CDO LGU has also developed ICT systems that enable interconnectivity with other data, information and systems of other government offices, whether local or national.
Moreover, the city has since modernized its system, including adopting an online payment system to ensure ease of doing business in the LGU’s facilities.
The Digital Cities 2025 program is expected to determine the industry-readiness of new centers by creating and developing ICT hubs in identified locations.
The ICT hubs will serve as business and innovation centers to draw in investments that can be expected to create more jobs and other economic opportunities in areas outside the National Capital Region (NCR).
The movement also aligns with the President’s ‘Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program' where LGUs, ICT Councils, and Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) locators will have access to information on strategies and best practices from the private and public sectors to effectively develop and grow the IT-BPM industry in the regions.
