MMDA limits ferry rides to medical frontliners, govt workers

PASIG CITY, August 4 (PIA) -- With the resumption of the Pasig River Ferry Service, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that starting today, the operations of the ferry service will be limited only to medical frontliners and government workers in support to their transportation needs.

"We hope that this effort will be helpful for our health workers and government employees in their transportation needs going to their respective workplaces,” said MMDA Chair Danilo Lim, amid the re-imposition of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) over Metro Manila wherein public transportation operations are temporarily suspended for the duration of the 15-day lockdown.

The free ferry rides are available at the following stations: Pinagbuhatan, San Joaquin, Guadalupe, Valenzuela, Lawton and Escolta. While the routes will be from Pinagbuhatan to Guadalupe, Guadalupe to Escolta and vice versa, and Guadalupe to San Joaquin and vice versa.

According to the MMDA, medical frontliners and government employees would just need to present a valid ID to avail of the free rides from Monday to Saturday, 6:00am to 6:00pm.

As precautionary measures against the spread of the COVID-19, the Pasig River Ferry Service is implementing the following health and safety protocols:

•          No mask, No entry;

•          Physical distancing shall be observed at all times;

•          Passenger with colds, cough or body temperature greater than 37.5 degrees Celsius will not be allowed to enter the PRFS premises; and

•          Only persons aged 21-59 years old will be allowed to board ferry boats.

Ferry riders will be required to undergo temperature check upon entering the ferry station. Likewise, they will be required to fill-out the manifest form and accomplish the commuter information sheet. (PIA-NCR)
