Project ‘ESEK’ to benefit 45 farmers in Besao barangay

BESAO, Mountain Province, Aug. 26(PIA)-- Forty-five farmers in barangay Tamboan in this municipality  are the initial  beneficiaries of  Project "ESEK" which was launched last month by  the Technical Education  and Skills Development Authority(TESDA)  in partnership with the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster  of the Provincial Task Force  on Ending Local Armed Conflict.

Project ESEK is an acronym for Environmental Sustainability through Ecological Kinetics. ESEK is an Igorot word meaning to plant. The project provides free training on Organic Agriculture Production NC II.

The training course is designed to enhance the knowledge, attitude and skills of participants in the utilization of their agricultural lands to increase food production. This will enable them to utilize their skills in becoming productive citizens in line with food security priority, food sustainability and agricultural productivity of the national government towards a new normal, and in support to the project of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on poverty reduction through livelihood programs.

The beneficiaries are grouped in three batches for the implementation of project ESEK on Organic Agriculture Production NC II Training with four competencies  namely   production of organic vegetables, production of organic fertilizer, production of organic concoction, and production of organic chicken or swine. Each batch undergoes 18-day training.

Expected outputs  of the project  are for the participants to produce quality/healthy organic agricultural products in their own farms, and to organize a farmer's cooperative among themselves that will be responsible in the operation and maintenance of the community-owned organic farm and its produce that will sustain their food security and at the same time a source of income of their families.

The first batch  composed of 15 beneficiaries, all from Sitio Dandanac, Tamboan, is now undergoing training with Jeff Layog as trainor.   TESDA Provincial Training Center Acting Administrator Proserphina Pacyado earlier oriented them about the project.

During the training period, each of the participants is provided with a daily allowance of P160.00; internet load of P500.00; free face masks and face shield, and an individual insurance with the GSIS applicable for one year.

After the training, the TESDA also provides free assessment to all the participants. (JDP/JBS-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
