PSA assures inclusion of IPs, islanders in 2020 census

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Aug. 28 (PIA) - - With the challenges brought by the health crisis, the Philippine Statistics Authority-Cagayan has assured that all citizens, including the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and those in the islands and coastal zones will be included in the 2020 Census of Population and Housing which will commence next month.

Engr. Elena U. Rivera, provincial statistics officer, urges every household to give accurate information and data for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing. (by PSA)

Engr. Elena U. Rivera, provincial statistical officer, said they have hired and trained 1, 574 enumerators, field supervisors and area supervisors assigned in the different municipalities, including those assigned in the far flung, coastal, islands and remote barangays.

Rivera said they have one month to accomplish the census but considering the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic, there will be some adjustments to complete the data gathering.

"We assure the public, even our IPs and other sectors, we will reach them out. We trained the enumerators on how to reach out to these sectors. Even those living in the hard-to-reach areas, we have enumerators from those areas," Rivera said.

However, she urged every family to stay at home and wait for the census enumerators to knock at their doors to interview them for the details needed.

She also encouraged everyone to give the accurate and true information for the accuracy of data to be gathered and analyzed which will be utilized for development planning and research purposes.

"We need truthful information. Don't you worry as we assure everyone that the data or information you will give will be treated with high confidentiality," Rivera reiterated.

She further said families or individuals who were locked down but non-residence of the province will not be included as they will be listed in their original residences.

Those who returned in their respective native lands as effect of the pandemic will be included as long as they will be probed to have intentions to permanently reside in their present addresses, Rivera added. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
