Wearing face shield in public transport, workplaces mandatory for residents, workers in Taguig

PARAÑAQUE CITY, August 17 (PIA) -- Residents and workers in Taguig City must wear face shields in addition to wearing of facemasks when in the workplace and while taking all modes of public transportation to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city.

The local government will implement a “No Face Shield, No Ride” to commuters making use of public transportation as soon as Metro Manila is placed under a more lenient general community quarantine (GCQ) and public utility vehicles are once again permitted.

Residents must have a face shield that would cover the entire face to ensure the safety of its user, the local government said.

The city government also reminded face shield retailers to follow the Department of Health (DOH) memorandum for the suggested retail price of the protective equipment. Price of face shields must be between P26.00 to P50.00 per piece.

According to an ‘I Love Taguig’ (Official Facebook Page of the Taguig City Government) Facebook post on Sunday, the new safety and health protocol was set in accordance with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ recommendation to use face shields.

It is also in accordance to the issuances of the memorandum orders and guidelines issued by DOH, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

To recall, the Taguig City Council has also earlier passed an ordinance making the wearing of face masks in public mandatory.

Aside from the wearing of masks, the local government also encouraged their constituents to continue to practice social distancing even as Metro Manila transitions to the so-called “new normal.” (PIA-NCR)
