DUMINGAG, Zamboanga del Sur, September 14 (PIA) –To reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the poor residents in the conflict-affected barangay of Saad in Dumingag town, the provincial government distributed cash assistance to 214 residents in the said barangay.
Governor Victor J. Yu, chairman of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) and 1st District Representative Divina Grace Yu led the distribution of the cash assistance to the 214 households in barangay Saad.
A total of P2,140,000 Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWD) released to fund the government’s financial incentive extended to the poor residents.
The 214 poor families are optimistic that they can jumpstart their livelihood activities with the help from the provincial government thru the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
Marianita Mariano said she was very grateful that the government is taking care of them by providing basic and social services.
“Dako kaayo ang among kalipay nga ang among barangay nakadawat ug mga grasya gikan sa kagamhanan sa lalawigan sama sa proyektong rehabilitasyon sa dalan ug pagtanyag ug hinabang pinansyal sa mga kabus nga mulupyo. Ang P10,000 nga akong nadawat nga hinabang akong ipalit ug duha ka kanding alang sa panginabuhian sa akong pamilya. Samtang magtanom ako ug mais sa akong uma, aduna usab unya ako dugang abot nga mapaabot aron mapalambo ang kaledad sa kinabuhi sa akong pamilya,” Mariano, a mother of two said.
(We are very happy that our barangay received blessings from the provincial government like the road rehabilitation project and cash assistance to the poor residents. The P10,000 that I received will be used to buy goats for the livelihood of my family. While, I will be planting corn, I will also earn extra income to improve the quality of life of my family.)
Ronnie Lunawan the assistance that he received will be used also to construct a simple house so that his family will have an enough space to sleep.
“I lauded the government for their utmost concern to the poor families in our very remote barangay,” Lunawad said.
Meanwhile, Governor Yu encouraged the residents, who are all farmers to support reforestation project of the provincial government by planting more trees in their respective farms saying that it will provide them a long-term financial income.
He encourage them to plant falcatta and mahogany seedlings adding that by planting trees it can bring several benefits particularly it will generate income to the farmers.
“Ang liso nga inyong itanom karon, inyong ma-harvest puhon” (the seed that your will plant now, you will harvest them later), Yu concluded. (EDT/GCC-PIA/Zamboanga del Sur)
