ILOILO CITY, Sept. 24 (PIA) – The Hatid Tulong Initiative program of the government brought home 57 Locally Stranded Individuals to Western Visayas on September 22 aboard a government boat.
They became the new batch of residents of the region who were provided free transport by the government to return to their respective provinces after having been stranded in metro Manila due to community quarantine travel restrictions arising from the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Of the total returning LSIs in the region, two are from Aklan, one each from Antique and Iloilo City , six from Capiz, three from Guimaras, 27 from Iloilo province, and 17 from Negros Occidental, based on a breakdown from the Philippine Coast Guard District in Western Visayas.
The sea vessel that transported the LSIs was the BRP “Lapu Lapu” (MMOV-5001) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Ruby Plagata, Regional Head of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), which is the convenor of the program, thanked the inter-agency Regional Incident Management Team for its support to the program.
The RIMT was activated by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chaired by Office of Civil Defense-6 Director Jose Roberto Nuñez.
The sea vessel first docked at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod City at around 11:00 a.m. where 17 LSIs bound for Negros Occidental disembarked, and proceeded about an hour later to the Port of Iloilo here where the remaining passengers got off.
