Ibajay LGU thankful for DA's assistance

KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 24 (PIA) --  Ibajay mayor Jose Enrique Miraflores is very thankful to the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the help extended by this government agency to the municipality especially in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his live interview in the September 23 Laging Handa Network Briefing hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Jose Martin Andanar and aired over Radyo Pilipinas, he said Ibajay farmers are heavily dependent on the help extended by the DA, and said any other help forthcoming will be very much welcome.

“In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, every help counts,” Miraflores told Sec. Andanar.

Miraflores said that recently, Ibajay farmers were recipients of the DA’s assistance under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), where the farmers received rice seeds and fertilizer.

He also praised the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) for providing the municipality good irrigation services which contributed to the successful rice industry program of the town.

Asked by Secretary Andanar on the other agricultural products of the municipality, the mayor said Ibajay is also a coconut producing town, with most of the constituents living in upland areas engaging in the industry.

He also told Secretary Andanar that the provincial government of Aklan has provided the municipality with an oil mill to produce coconut oil, but this is an ongoing project.

“We have to find ways to improve our agriculture industry,"  Miraflores said.

In the Laging handa program, the mayor also interacted with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III who provided him with information as to assistance of the government to Ibayhanons who had been displaced or lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Along with him as the other guest in the program edition was Sangguniang Kabataan- Aklan Federation president Blessie Jizmundo, who chairs the SK Aklan's programs and projects of the Aklanon Yoth in this time of COVID-19 pandemic. (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
