Kalibo cites outstanding Kalibonhon youth, youth groups

KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 12 (PIA) --  The municipality of Kalibo recently cited 10 outstanding Kalibonhon youth and youth groups who displayed exemplary and selfless service during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The citation of these individuals and groups is a result of the Search for Outstanding Youth and Youth-led group initiated by the Local Youth Division of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), in celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan dubbed “Pagdayaw 2020.”

Pagdayaw 2020” was one of the highlights of the Linggo ng Kabataan fully supported by the Pambayang Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan ng Kalibo.

The 10 Outstanding Kalibonhon Youth and Youth-led groups cited by the municipality were Aklan Barter Community (youth-led group), Annyka Frances Beatriz Dela Cruz (individual), Interact Club of Wadeford (youth-led), Janica Anne Dela Pena (individual), Makakaya Organization, Maria Solita Guzman (individual), Project Kalibo, Pulong ng Kabataan, SKC Kalibo Chapter, and YAP Kalibo Municipal Council.

One of the awardees, Project Kalibo, was cited because of its timely initiative called “Baylo, Barter For A Cause.”

The project targets to collect at least 5,000 transistor radios to be distributed to students who badly need these for their studies.

According to the group, those students living in remote areas will be prioritized as beneficiaries.

Project Kalibo’s scheme to pool fund for this cause is through donation of pre-loved clothes from the public for barter or sale, by cash donation, or by actually donating radios.

Maria Solita Guzman, one of the individual awardees, on the other hand, is the person behind the Milk-giving Project, one of the many sub-projects of the Movement of Gratitude, a community project initiated by her and her husband.

The Milk-giving Project had a total of 1,500 beneficiaries ranging from children, Persons With Disability (PWDs), and senior citizens.

The establishment of the Local Youth Development Office is a recent move of LGU-Kalibo under the mayor Emerson Lachica, in recognition of the youth sector as an essential group in nation-building and in forwarding the vision of Kalibo to become a vibrant, livable and greener city.

In his message to the Kalibonhon youth,  Lachica said “Kita hay padayon gid ro pagsuporta sa mga programa para sa ikamayad it atong mga young people. Nagapati gid kita nga mabahoe nga bulig ro aktibo nga pagpartisipar it mga pamatan-on sa mga bueuhaton it gobyerno eabi gid sa rayang oras it pandemya” (We are continuously supporting  programs for the benefit of our young people. We believe their active participation in the activities of the government especially during this pandemic is a big help). (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan/Photos courtesy from Vibrant Kalibo FB)
